In 2017 VTH launched its first capital campaign, Building Hope for Heroes, to raise $1.3 million in philanthropy for a truly transformational capital expansion project. The goal of this campaign was to fund the revitalization of a historic property located at 1060 Purchase Street for 20 units of transitional housing, and to renovate an abandoned commercial building located at 1311 Pleasant Street for a long-awaited veterans’ outreach center. These projects coincided with an $8.6 million construction project for 30 units of permanent housing within two new buildings located at 22 Willis Street and 1333 Purchase Street. Together, this $10 million VTH facility expansion has significantly modernized is taking place along one New Bedford city block to create a new campus for veterans.
With retired BankFive CEO William R. Eccles, Jr. serving as our campaign chairman, VTH engaged more than 100 individuals, corporate, and foundation donors in this successful fundraising effort that concluded in September 2019. Thank you, Bill, and thank you to all the donors of our first capital campaign!
